Dashboards: Building Visual Reports

Step 1: Create a New Dashboard

  1. Navigate to Dashboards in the left sidebar
  2. Click Create Dashboard
  3. Give it a name
  4. You are now in the dashboard editor

Step 2: Add Visualization Widgets

  1. In the editor, click Add Widget
  2. Select Visualization
  3. Choose from your existing dataset visualizations (bar charts, line charts, KPI cards, etc.)
  4. The chart appears on the canvas

Step 3: Add Other Widget Types

Add any combination of these widgets:

  • Text block: Explanatory text using the rich text editor
  • Heading: Section titles to organize your dashboard
  • Dynamic filters: Interactive dropdowns that filter dashboard data in real time. Types: Dropdown, Text, Number, Boolean, Date, DateTime, Date Range, DateTime Range. Configure each filter with a label and link it to specific columns
  • Image upload: Logos, diagrams, or visuals (JPG, PNG, SVG, max 375KB)

Step 4: Arrange the Layout

  1. Drag widgets to reposition them on the canvas
  2. Resize widgets by dragging their edges
  3. Group related metrics together using headings
  4. Place KPI cards at the top for executive summaries, detail charts below

Step 5: Configure Dashboard Settings

  1. Adjust the grid columns count for your layout
  2. Set the gap size between widgets
  3. These settings are per-dashboard

Step 6: Save and Publish

  1. Review your layout (changes are saved as a draft until you publish)
  2. Click Save to publish
  3. The dashboard becomes visible to all workspace users based on their role

Available Chart Types

Chart Type Best For
Bar chart Comparing categories (vertical, horizontal, stacked, or grouped)
Line chart Trends over time (with gradient area fill)
Pie chart Proportions of a whole
Doughnut chart Proportions with a center space for context
Gauge chart Progress toward a target (half-circle with value and max)
Table Detailed data with sorting, filtering, and formatting
KPI card Key metrics with goal comparison and delta indicators

Visualization Configuration Options

  • X/Y axis column selection
  • Aggregation functions
  • Series grouping and color customization
  • Table: header colors, row numbers, column formatting
  • KPI: prefix, suffix, currency format, decimal places, goal values, delta indicators
